March 2nd, 2017, College of Charleston's Spring break, a selected group of seven college students with all different backgrounds will be traveling to Cameroon. Cameroon is a country in the western region of central Africa. There the students will complete their service learning mission: to make a difference in the daily lives of the people in Cameroon.
A few of our goals are to take school supplies to the young children in the villages. We have collected notebooks, pens, pencils, markers and crayons for the children. We will also take soccer balls as a way of bonding for the children in their villages. In addition, this year we will be accepting iPad's as donations to take to the schools as they are all being wired for electricity!
While education in Cameroon is free, the students are required to have the necessary supplies in order to attend school. For many parents they do not see the value in their child's education because in order to provide all of these supplies they would have to choose between food for the family or the child's education.
Below are two videos made by previous students who traveled to Cameroon in previous years! Watch them to get a feel of what we will be doing while in Cameroon!!
